The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Comes After Lukewarm Feedback
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure informed staff about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a clearer game identity.
The president expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment
This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to persist.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the necessity for a more distinct vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, he officially joins us on the specified date.
Ben’s leadership and experience in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half developing and managing some of the most well-known series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting him soon. We are all eager to persist witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.
The President

Title Details and Concept
The upcoming game was revealed in last year together with a early access event. Then, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch explains. "Take on the rivals with new abilities, stakes, and obstacles that evolve every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, risk it all, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is in your hands."
Project Ethos has not yet received an announced release date or consoles, but fans can look forward to more updates as development progresses.
