It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a side that has accomplished all there is.

The fact it required until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It's challenging for their hitters to maintain a record if never given the possibility.

In the end, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to produce her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her nation didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India momentarily interrupted the winning streak.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the final and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

Whether this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the case for the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this performance came after six matches in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it was a frustrating experience because it seemed I lacked timing at all," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive nature kick in and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her key asset - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from there the right-hander was underway.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that regard, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 deliveries - her quickest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

By the time she was dismissed Australia needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the confidence to do that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, should it happen, we know we can achieve it."

Those words will be the last rival teams at this tournament should hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this triumph following victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wished she had played despite the injury.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have postponed consideration of ending her career, this tournament is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as captain.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
